Finding the right postgraduate degree for you
Our courses and research programmes are informed and directed by industry’s needs and challenges. To best address these challenges our specialisms are aligned to specific sectors, which we refer to as themes and are listed below. This enables us to build relationships with SMEs within these sectors as well as global businesses, governments, and NGOs.
Our courses are listed on our website by the specialist areas – as well as Design Thinking which can be applied across all areas. Use this list to help you identify the course that is right for you.
- Aerospace,
- Defence and Security,
- Energy and Sustainability,
- Environment and Agrifood,
- School of Management,
- Manufacturing and Materials,
- Transport Systems,
- Water.
Learn from your cohort
With approximately half of our learners over 30, we also accept students with relevant industry experience. This breadth of experience adds value to your learning. Mature students gain support from students with fresh experience of undergraduate study, and students who have not yet worked in their chosen sector benefit from real-world examples from mature students. This unique learning experience ensures our graduates are highly regarded and sought after in technology and management roles and organisations.

“I chose Cranfield because I visited the University when I was quite young during my Nuffield research placement and I really liked the facilities. There was also a lot of focus on sustainability and power, and the environment, which is something I wanted to pursue in my masters. My group project was exciting because it was a brand-new topic based on nuclear power for clean fuels. It was super exciting for me, because I have a lot of interest in the nuclear industry.”
