Industrial collaboration

We partner with over

1,500

organisations across 40+ countries

including global companies, governments, NGOs and universities – giving students real-world experience and industry specific challenges during their studies. These collaborations support impactful research, innovation and help shape future researchers and leaders in technology and management.

Industry partners work with us in many ways, including:

  • Sponsoring individual or group MSc research projects.
  • Fully or partly funding PhD research.
  • Offering internships, short placements and graduate roles.
  • Taking part in Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs), where students work with industry supported by an academic team.
  • Engaging directly with students through seminars, guest lectures, workshops and networking events.
  • Contributing to course development and serving on industrial advisory boards.

Organisations we work with include:

“I particularly enjoyed the group projects, which gave me the chance to collaborate with talented peers and apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. Working with Rolls-Royce on a manufacturing project was a highlight, as it provided me with valuable industry experience and a glimpse into the future of engineering.”

Phillippe Masse,

Business Manager, Leaf Ingénierie, (Engineering and Management of Manufacturing Systems MSc 2024)

“At the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), which was my industrial sponsor, there was a mixture of research and commercial work, so, there was the opportunity to get involved in various other projects that were coming through them at the same time as I was working there. I offered assistance on more industrial projects because the interferometers we developed are used in quite a few different pieces of equipment at NPL.”

Dr Angus Bridges,

Higher Scientist, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), (Engineering Photonics PhD 2021)

“Although TWI has supported several post-graduate students from Cranfield University, this was my first time engaging directly with students involved in the group design project. The quality of the work produced by the students in such a short timeframe truly highlights their potential and high calibre nature.”

Pedro de Sousa Santos PhD,

Senior Project Leader, TWI
